About the novel – One Night @ the Call Center:

One Night at the Call center is the novel based on the life of the people of middle class family in India and their problems. It is a story of emotions which shows pity, love, sorrow and ambitions. It denotes to the many aspects of human life. It deals with the expectations of people and the frustration after not fulfilling them.
The story of one night at call center moves around six people. Three are male and three and females. All of them are working in a same group in a call center .They all are different from each other but they have a similarity in them that all of them are fed up with their lives and their lives are very messy.
This story is about a night at call center which changes the lives of all the people, not lives actually it changes their way of thinking .It changes their way to deal with the problems of their lives. Shyam Mehra is the narrator of the story and is the main character of the story. He is very much confused in his life. He is a very simple boy. He loves Priyanka who has got engaged with Ganesh an NRI boy. He is sad because of it and second thing is that he thinks that his boss has cheated him and Varun.
Varun (Vroom) is a friend of Shyam and does not want to do the job but he wants to keep up his standard up so he has to work there. Priyanka mother wants her to marry Ganesh next month but she does not want. She still feels something for Shyam. Later on Shyam tell her about the baldness of Ganesh who hid this from her. Esha Singh or Eliza is an ambitious girl who wants to become a model. She runs away from house and join call center in o red to fulfill her dreams .She does many compromises. But she is bluffed by a man who said her that she is not suitable for being a model.
Her life represents the ambitious middle class youth who are running after blind race of materialism.
Radhika call name is Regime Jones. She is married. She is not happy with her mother in law. She loves her husband a lot but when she comes to know that on a radio program he selects another girl over her. She gets very upset. Military uncle is the oldest person in call center but he is living a lonely life. His heart cries for his grandson but he gets more upset when his grandson asks him to stop mailing him.
In this way everyone in the call center is fed up with his life but one day at night everyone receives a call from God. God motivates everyone and tells the way to handle their problems. He tells them not to get frustrated by problems. He suggests them to face the problems and to do 100% of efforts. After receiving the call the life of everyone is changed. Everyone starts facing the problem with full of courage and finds out the best solution.
Shaym finally gets his love. Priyanka also refuses to get marry to Ganesh who hid his baldness. Esha starts working for NGOs. Military Uncle also gets his family back at the end.
In this way the story of one night at call center is based on facts and fiction. The characters are taken from the real life. They represent the problem of middle class Indians. The story denotes the six different problems of six different people. Priyanka represent the girl in India who has to follow the decision of parents at the matter of marriage. God gives the solution to it and tells her to believe in herself. Military uncle also represent old people who are ditched by the family and it is a common and a serious problem in society. At the end he also gets his family back. The story of the novel is very simple but the call from God makes it interesting. All the characters in it are young except military uncle. The language of the novel is very simple and that is the only reason of its popularity.

About the movie – ‘Hello’:

Hello is a 2008 Bollywood thriller film directed by Atul Agnihotri, starring Sharman Joshi, Sohail Khan, Gul Panag, Isha Koppikar, Amrita Arora and Sharat Saxena in the lead roles. The film is based on Chetan Bhagat's novel, One Night @ the Call Center. It also had cameo roles from Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the film. It was released on 10 October 2008. Hello had an 'Average' performance at Indian box-office.
Hello... is a tale about the events that happen one night at a call center. Told through the views of the protagonist, Shyam, it is a story of almost lost love, thwarted ambitions, absence of family affection, pressures of a patriarchal set up, and the work environment of a globalized office. Shyam is losing his girlfriend because his career is going nowhere as he trudges his way around in a call center. His girlfriend, Priyanka, is also an agent like him at the call center who is about to be snatched by an NRI techno geek. There is also the aspiring model, Esha, who is hoping for the break that seems to be always already eluding her and the man about town, Vroom, who is into well, things. The housewife, Radhika, who is constantly at the receiving end of her mother-in-law and a beleaguered grandfather, Military Uncle, who has been barred from interacting with his grandchild make up the rest of the call agents who see their worlds crumbling around them as the decisions of right sizing are conveyed by Bakshi, the boss. It is a night when dreams will finally crumble. Or will it? For there is that call from God. Narrated as a tale within a tale as a beautiful woman meets the auteur narrator and promises him a story on the condition that he has to narrate it further, Hello, based on Chetan Bhagat's one night @ the call center, is the one remarkable story from Tales from a Thousand and One globalizing, urban, Indian Nights.

In comparative study, novel and movie’s basic idea was same. Beginning of the story and way of talking story was also same in movie and novel. But there are minor changes in both. Like,

-Lady has godlier figure

There are many other changes and similarities in the novel and movie. So, let’s have a look on that.

                                                                        Narration:
·        Prologue of the Novel
- Language English
- Writer travels Kanpur to Delhi in train

                                                Popularity
·        Novel
-Novel is more popular than the movie
-Best-selling book
-Consider as block- buster novel
·        Movie
-Average movie
-The film was not successful at the box office

The film takes away a lot of criticism for adapting the original episodes that reveals in the book. For example, the example in the book, where Ganesh's photos are found on the net and revealed to Priyanka by Vroom, is missing from the movie, making it difficult to understand why Priyanka comes back to Shyam in the end. There are many such instances which reveal the weakness of the script. The cast also doesn't justify the original characters in the movie. Vroom, in the book is described as a lean tall guy, but is played by Sohail Khan, who is a complete contrast to it. Same applies to the characters like Esha and Priyanka.
The themes involve the worries and uncertainties of the rising Indian middle class, including questions about career, insufficiency, marriage, family conflicts in a changing India, and the relationship of the young Indian middle class to both executives and ordinary clients whom they serve in the United States. There is an aspect of self-help in the book as the author invites readers to identify aspects of themselves and their lives that make them angry and that they would like to change.
